I am a self-taught South African artist based in Cape Town.
I specialize in pencil sketching and deep shading to create realism.
By capturing moments of a stranger's life in my pieces, I intend to draw in the eye of the viewer, to interpret the snapshot and to decipher what life the character lives/lived, with the help of detailed clues hiding in the piece.
By stepping into the life of a complete stranger with a mere photograph, we experience a sense of surrealism. We try to connect with the piece and the stranger with the emotions we feel and understand. The piece somehow then becomes our own.
I am continually looking for new ways to improve my storytelling with my pieces, and how to incorporate subtle messages as a reminder to have compassion for all life.
